Community Day is the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP)’s premier annual conference for thought leaders in the sustainable printing industry. The event brings together printers, suppliers and Fortune 500 brands to advance sustainability in the graphic communications industry. Through focused roundtable discussions and networking opportunities, the event creates a community of practice that allows participants to connect, learn and build a new future for print.

This year’s event coincides with SGP’s 10th anniversary so we are inviting all SGP members* and VIP guests to attend a networking gala dinner the night of November 14 to celebrate our accomplishments.

Community Day 2018: The State of Sustainability

Our world is changing rapidly and sustainability is at the forefront of these changes. Businesses, industries and organizations alike are digging deep to discover new ways to create economic growth that is within planetary boundaries and that is based in social equity. Where do we stand as a world in this shift? How do the efforts of SGP members, patrons and allies feed into this larger effort? Join Community Day this November to explore these questions and more within the context of the graphic communications industry.

Last year, a joint initiative on recycling plastics from retailers at the store level was launched. How far have we come? Is there recycling access at the store level? Join the panel for a lively discussion about the initiatives that are underway and, most importantly, the role you can play to move this project and dialogue forward.

Walk into any building and you see printed interiors and fabrics. Visit a trade show and you see graphics in the booth as well as around the floor. There is a growing interest in using sustainable materials and suppliers for this industry sector. In this energetic discussion, panelists will discuss where the market is and where it is going.

Gala Dinner: November 14 6pm-9pm

The gala dinner is an opportunity for SGP Community members* and VIP guests to wine, dine and celebrate SGP’s 10 years of accomplishments.

The dinner will be held at the Renaissance Cincinnati Downtown Hotel, the same hotel as the conference, and will be preceded by a cocktail hour from 5pm-6pm.

* SGP Community members include SGP Applicants, SGP Patrons (number depends on level), SGP Printers, SGP Brand Leaders and Print Buyers, and SGP Resource Partners. While the 10th anniversary gala is by invitation only, members of the public are encouraged to attend the day-long conference.

As the Executive Director of Green Umbrella, Ryan Mooney-Bullock works with organizations and individuals of all types across a 10-county region to accelerate the sustainability of Greater Cincinnati. The organization’s collective impact model builds on the strengths, passions and interconnections of hundreds of members as they work towards shared goals in Energy, Greenspace, Local Food, Outdoor education and nature awareness, Transportation, Waste Reduction and Watershed. Green Umbrella also leads Tri-State Trails, Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council and Cincinnati’s 2030 District.

A seasoned program manager, educator and communicator, Ryan is most energized when she is helping people make connections between their passions and interests and what is going on in the natural and human worlds around them. She has a lifelong commitment to environmental sustainability and Cincinnati’s green hillsides, waterways and vibrant community.

I have been working in the imaging business since 1978, starting in the photographic lab printing and processing film and through the digital revolution in the mid 1990’s. Running a clean and efficient operation has always been my preferred style and the 3r’s have always been important in my work and home life.

In 2005, having gone 100% digital, our company had the opportunity to move into a large blank space and design it the way we saw most sustainable and this began my more focused journey into sustainable business practices. This required us to accurately track our activities so that we could benchmark where we started and gather data to track our progress and only then could we compare our efforts to other like-minded operations. What was lacking was a common standard that we could all reach for.

It was, with these driving forces that we discovered SGP, as it was being formed in 2008, and we became a certified facility in the first wave of print companies in February 2009. I became a Board member two years ago and I am active on both the SGP Technical and Executive Committees as well.

Mike Compton has 18 years of experience in digital printing on textiles. His experience spans print media, printers, inks, software, and finishing equipment both nationally and internationally. Currently, Mike is the Chairman of SGIA’s Sustainability, Health, Safety & Personnel Advisory Council as well as the editorial and content advisor for the SGIA Journal. He is the IFAI-Fabric Graphics Association Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and an author and participant in industry trade publication articles related to digital printing on textiles. Mike has been a speaker and expert panelist on printing industry related topics and looks forward to participating in SGP Community Day 2018.

After graduating in 2000 from Virginia Tech, with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an initial five years in the automotive industry, Dave began his career in packaging with Printpack’s Rigid Division in late 2004 as Maintenance Manager located in Williamsburg, VA. Over a five year period he held various operations roles of increasing responsibility, eventually serving as Plant Manager for two rigid facilities. Dave’s next move after Virginia was to Bloomington, IN for a short time as the site representative for Printpack’s reinvestment in bread bag converting. Dave and his family then relocated to China, where he lived and worked for five years as the General Manager of Printpack Suzhou and Director of Printpack Thailand.

As of January 2016, Dave is now based in Atlanta at Printpack’s global headquarters. He spent several years as Market Development Manager focused on Printpack’s PE Film business, Metallizing, Coatings and Sustainability. Dave is also a member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s Executive Committee and the Plastics Industry Association’s Sustainability Advisory Board. He recently moved into a Sales leadership role, but remains actively committed to helping customers realize a more sustainable future.

Dave and his wife Rebecca have four children. He enjoys spending his time with family traveling, cooking all sorts of food, and being outdoors roughing it with the Scouts.

Ms. Kinter is the Vice President for Government & Business Information for the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association International. Ms. Kinter oversees the development of management resources for the Association and represents the screen printing and digital imaging industries, as well as their associated supplier base, before federal and state regulatory agencies and the U.S. Congress on environmental, safety and other government issues directly impacting the screen printing and graphic imaging industries. She is responsible for directing the activities of not only the government affairs portion of the Association’s activities, but the development and implementation of business resources for the membership.

In 2008, Ms. Kinter, in conjunction with colleagues from other printing trade associations, was instrumental in launching the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership program.

Ms. Kinter is a member of and serves as Secretary for the Academy of Screen and Digital Printing Technologies. In 2001, Ms. Kinter received the William D. Schaeffer Environmental Award for significant advancement of environmental awareness in the graphic arts industry.

Before joining SGIA International, Ms. Kinter worked for The American Waterways Operators, Inc., the national association for the barge and towing industry.

Ms. Kinter holds a bachelor’s degree in urban planning from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a master’s degree in public administration from George Mason University.

Ashley Hood-Morley has served as Director of Sustainability at the Plastics Industry Association since May 2017. In this role, she works with the VP of Sustainability to manage PLASTICS’ portfolio of recycling and sustainability projects across the organization. The PLASTICS Sustainability Team also leads the activities of the Sustainability Advisory Board and Recycling Committee.

Ashley joined PLASTICS in 2014 and previously served as Director of Key Accounts, where she was responsible for new member recruitment and sponsorship sales. Prior to joining PLASTICS, Ashley worked for Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN, where she held a variety of positions including roles in new product development, manufacturing, quality assurance, and product stewardship, all of which supported Eastman’s specialty plastics business.

Ashley graduated from the University of Kentucky where she received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 2007.

Libra has worked in the print world for over 15 years spanning from her time at high-fashion advertising agency, AR New York, to her most recent position at ANN INC. where she managed production for the Ann Taylor and LOFT brands. She has managed every type of printing imaginable from direct mail to 3D visual displays to packaging and all type of printing processes from digital to offset to screenprint. Libra is a fierce advocate for sustainable print operations and recyclable/recycled material, and believes all brands should incorporate sustainable print policies into their corporate goals. She has consulted over 50 major brands on the topic, and has hosted events across the country, mostly through her affiliation with SGP and their community. Libra is a proud board member of SGP and oversees the Brand Leaders program.

Mr. Stapley has 30 years of entrepreneurial and corporate experience in both the private and public sector serving in various roles. Mr. Stapley currently manages national accounts and assists in ECOR plant development. Mr. Stapley works to integrate ECOR into established industries such as signs & displays, furniture & fixtures, packaging and the built environment. Previously, Mr. Stapley served as a senior executive in a publicly owned food safety equipment company manufacturing and selling industry disruptive non-toxic CIP systems to Fortune 500 customers. Mr. Stapley received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management with an emphasis on Entrepreneurship from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. Mr. Stapley currently sits on the board of the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership.

Rosalyn Bandy is a 14 year veteran of the sustainability field. Her current role as TLMI’s Director of Environmental Strategies and Outreach enables her to work with all aspects of the printing industry on waste and recycling issues, reducing environmental impacts, and ensuring that labels do not impact the recyclability of containers. Roz lives in Central New York where she is also the President of her local lake association and works with town government to update building codes for the preservation of water quality and the state government on the management of invasive aquatic plant species.
